I just saw the film 'Gravity' and about half way through, I realized that my stress responses felt exactly like I was at work - and then I started to see it: vague warnings followed by a shrapnel storm, small fires going big, feeding false data to computers to get them to do things, hitting buttons "in the neighborhood" because the instructions are in Chinese, using a fire extinguisher as a valid propulsion unit (that's me writing an awk script!), attempts to deliver information to management that can't hear you and/or respond due to circumstances beyond their control (in this case technical, but business/political counts) and, of course, having a life saving idea while in a dazed half asleep hallucinatory trance. And those are just the easy analogs!
Innovating through serial crisis while in an atmosphere of doom - that's a startup. 'Gravity' is a training film.
